The Inter-Livery ‘Ryder Cup’ Golf Day
Each year the Worshipful Company of Marketors hosts the ‘Ryder Cup’ Livery Fellowship Golf Day at Verulam Golf Club, Sam Ryder’s home course.
Another great day’s golf on 5th July 2021 at Verulam Golf Club, St Albans for the 15th Marketors’ Livery Fellowship Golf day. The club was the home course for Sam Ryder, who famously donated the cup in 1927 for one of the most famous international golf competitions. It’s a beautiful course, with a wonderful view of the splendid St Albans, Abbey.

Sponsored by James Hambro & Partners, with a raffle, a putting competition and a chance to play the 7th hole at Pebble Beach, California (virtually in the pro-shop trainer!) all proceeds went to the Lord Mayor’s charity appeal.
Plumbers’ Team One (L to R) Mile Samuel, Tony Peters, Trevor Wilson and Luke Peters.
Plumbers’ Team Two (L to R) Paul Nash, Jane Palmer, Ian Palmer and Richard Harvey.
We were able to show off our new golfing shirts for the first time. We also have sweaters and jackets if the weather demands it!
Twenty six teams took part and the main competition was won comfortably by the Environmental Cleaners with an outstanding score of 127 points (the best 3 stableford scores in each team of 4 counted). The Makers of Playing Cards came second with 118 points and the sponsors, Hambro 3rd with 116 points. The Plumbers’ Teams were by no means last and came in with very creditable scores of 103 and 95 points. Tony Peters had an excellent individual score of 40 points (4 under par to his handicap) to win 3rd prize in the individual competition – well done Tony.

The whole event was hosted very warmly by the Marketors and the staff at Verulam and we enjoyed bacon rolls and coffee to begin and a splendid three-course meal afterwards.
Next up it’s our own golfing day and championship at New Zealand Golf Course, Surrey on 29th July 2021, where we have 51 PGS members and guests joining us. And hopefully with no lockdown restrictions!
