Plumbers’ Golf Society – Swinley Forest

The Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer of the Plumbers’ Golf Society (PGS) were invited by the Horners’ Company to their spring meeting at the iconic Swinley Forest Golf Club in Surrey.

Past Master Geoff Marsh MBE – 90th Birthday

Happy Birthday to Past Master Geoff Marsh, who has just celebrated his 90th birthday; yet another fabulous achievement in his life! A stalwart of our trade and profession, Geoff was a leading light for decades and inaugurated the Master Plumber Certificate Award which has been copied across the City of London by numerous other trades and professions. Sponsored by the City and Guilds’ of London Institute (CGLI), this prestigious annual event, started by the Plumbers’ Company, recognises and rewards the very best in a number of trades.

Pancake Race Cancelled

Sadly, this year’s Inter-Livery Pancake Race had to be cancelled at the last minute because of the weather. But it didn’t prevent Renter Warden David Adams winning second prize in the judging for the best fancy dress in the fancy dress race – that didn’t take place!  Well done David!

World Plumbing Day – 11 March

Each year on 11 March we celebrate World Plumbing Day. Ordinarily the Worshipful Company of Plumbers recognises it by awarding and presenting bursaries to our very best apprentices in a ceremony at our Plumbing Apprentice Statue on Cannon Street Station. It hasn’t been possible to award any this year because of the pandemic, but we do have a message from Thomas Bigley, the Chairman of the World Plumbing Council, highlighting what World Plumbing Day means.

Caribbean Evening

A fun filled evening of Caribbean cocktails, canapés and food, with music and dancing at the October Gallery in Bloomsbury hosted by Linett Kamala, a Director of the Notting Hill Carnival.

Liveryman Thomas Mayhew

It is with much sadness we have to announce the death of Liveryman Tom Mayhew who passed away on 22 January 2022 aged 86 years. Tom was a very active member of the company for 34 years and our thoughts and condolences go to his widow Monica, sons Tom, Patrick and Alexander and all his family. His funeral is planned to be held in Windsor and further details will be published when known.

Four New Liverymen Admitted in January 2022

We were delighted to admit four new liverymen during our Court meeting and lunch at Armourers’ Hall on 26 January 2022.

Our first Court meeting of 2022 was held at the historic Armourers’ Hall. We admitted four new liverymen and presented the Worshipful Company of Plumbers top apprentice awards to the Royal Navy winners for 2020 and 2021.
