Becket Pageant for London

As part of the Becket Pageant for London, the Plumbers joined twenty other livery companies in the 16th Century Livery Fair, recreating the original fair of 1519, to help celebrate the Patron Saint of London and former Archbishop of Canterbury, Thomas Becket.






Plumbers Triumph at Horners’ Inter-Livery Golf Trophy

Congratulations to the Plumbers’ Golf Team who won the 2022 Horners’ Inter-Livery Golf Trophy at the beautiful Ashridge Golf Club in Buckinghamshire.

Plumbers’ Golf Society – Chairman’s Trip to Morley Hayes

The PGS Chairman, Upper Warden Paul Nash, organised a two-day trip to the Morley Hayes Golf Hotel in the glorious Derbyshire Dales.

Liveryman Professor Tim Gocher OBE

We are delighted to announce that Liveryman Prof Tim Gocher was awarded the OBE in the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Birthday Honours List for services to British investment and development in Nepal. Tim is the founder and CEO of Dolma Fund Management and founder and chairman of the Dolma Foundation, a non-profit organisation founded in 2003 to alleviate poverty by investing in education, health and sustainable businesses in Nepal. Many congratulations Tim on such fabulous recognition of your excellent work and dedication to such a worthwhile cause.

Liveryman Geoffrey Etherington

It is with much sadness we have to announce the death of Liverymen Geoffrey Etherington at home on Thursday 26 May at the age of 78 after a short illness. He was the brother of Past Master Steve Hodkinson’s wife Jane and had been a liveryman since 2015. He attended many functions with his wife Jadwiga (Iga), who you can see with him in their photograph with the Duchess of Cornwall. Our thoughts and condolences are with Iga, Jane and the whole family.  Geoffrey’s funeral will be held at St Mary’s Church, Saffron Walden on Thursday 9th June at 10.30 a.m. followed by a committal in Cam Valley Crematorium at 12.00 p.m. Family flowers only, but donations welcomed for ‘St Clare Hospice’, via or sent c/o Peasgood & Skeates, Shire Hill, Saffron Walden CB11 3AQ.

Plumbers’ tribute to Covid heroes

The role of St Bartholomew’s staff during the Covid-19 pandemic has been recognised by a group of Master Plumbers on 17th May 2022. Craftsmen and women from the Worshipful Company of Plumbers made and gifted a lead planter to the hospital as a thank you for its response to the crisis.

Thames River Cruise and Cutty Sark Visit

We enjoyed a great day out cruising down the Thames to Greenwich to visit the majestic tea clipper “Cutty Sark” followed by lunch in the riverside pub “The Yacht Tavern”.

Plumbers’ Golf Society – Prince Arthur Cup

The Plumbers’ Golf Society enjoyed considerable success in the prestigious Inter-Livery Prince Arthur Cup at Walton Heath Golf Club, the UK’s largest single-day 2-course amateur foursomes competition..

Inter-Livery Regatta 2022

The Inter-Livery Yacht Regatta on the Isle of Wight returned to its usual date in May and the Plumbers were back to compete and join in the fun.

The Jaws of Death

This year’s Annual Lecture explored London’s increasing demand for water verses nature’s rapidly reducing supply.  Without water there is no life; without clean water there is no good life.

Masters’ and Clerks’ Lunch – 27 April 2022

Our annual Masters’ and Clerks’ Lunch for our fellow livery companies returned after a two-year break, in the splendid surroundings of Carpenters’ Hall, the home of our office.

United Guilds’ Service 1 April 2022

The Master, Wardens, Liverymen and their partners attended the colourful United Guilds’ Service in St Paul’s Cathedral after a gap of two years.

Ukraine – The Plumbers’ Response

Master’s Guildhall Yard Charity Sleepover

The Master spent the night of 30 March on the slabs of the Guildhall Yard to raise money for the homeless – on one of the coldest nights of the year!.

Plumbers’ Banquet 2022

We enjoyed a fabulous evening on 21 March at the Mansion House for the return of our annual banquet after a delay of three years. The Lord Mayor was able to join us for one of the highlights of our social programme.

The Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer of the Plumbers’ Golf Society (PGS) were invited by the Horners’ Company to their spring meeting at the iconic Swinley Forest Golf Club in Surrey.

Past Master Geoff Marsh MBE – 90th Birthday

Happy Birthday to Past Master Geoff Marsh, who has just celebrated his 90th birthday; yet another fabulous achievement in his life! A stalwart of our trade and profession, Geoff was a leading light for decades and inaugurated the Master Plumber Certificate Award which has been copied across the City of London by numerous other trades and professions. Master Certificate Awards 2022

Sponsored by the City and Guilds’ of London Institute (CGLI), this prestigious annual event, started by the Plumbers’ Company, recognises and rewards the very best in a number of trades.

Pancake Race Cancelled

Sadly, this year’s Inter-Livery Pancake Race had to be cancelled at the last minute because of the weather. But it didn’t prevent Renter Warden David Adams winning second prize in the judging for the best fancy dress in the fancy dress race – that didn’t take place!  Well done David!

World Plumbing Day – 11 March

Each year on 11 March we celebrate World Plumbing Day. Ordinarily the Worshipful Company of Plumbers recognises it by awarding and presenting bursaries to our very best apprentices in a ceremony at our Plumbing Apprentice Statue on Cannon Street Station. It hasn’t been possible to award any this year because of the pandemic, but we do have a message from Thomas Bigley, the Chairman of the World Plumbing Council, highlighting what World Plumbing Day means.

A fun filled evening of Caribbean cocktails, canapés and food, with music and dancing at the October Gallery in Bloomsbury hosted by Linett Kamala, a Director of the Notting Hill Carnival.

Liveryman Thomas Mayhew

It is with much sadness we have to announce the death of Liveryman Tom Mayhew who passed away on 22 January 2022 aged 86 years. Tom was a very active member of the company for 34 years and our thoughts and condolences go to his widow Monica, sons Tom, Patrick and Alexander and all his family. His funeral is planned to be held in Windsor and further details will be published when known.
