A Christmas message from your Master, Wardens, Immediate Past Master and Clerk. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from us all!

A stunning and moving tribute to a quite remarkable woman. Patience was married to the Father of our Company, Past Master David Thomson. This article first appeared and is reproduced courtesy of The Times.

We had hoped to be seeing Father Philip in our company church St Magnus-the-Martyr this Christmas to enjoy our carol service, but the Covid-19 outbreak prevented it. In it’s place, he has recorded this message for us.

It is with much sadness that we have learnt of the death of Liveryman Graham Wrightson. His daughter Margaret advised us that he passed away on 19 November; Graham was 94 years old and had been a member of the company since 1987.  Our thoughts are with Margaret and all his family.

Past Master Professor Rodney Cartwright gave a fascinating and thought provoking presentation on past and present epidemics through the company’s history and measures to control them, many of which involved “plumbing”.

It is with great sadness we have to announce the death of Patience Thomson, the wife of the Father of our Company, Past Master David Thomson.  Patience passed away on Saturday 21 November. We send our heartfelt condolences to David and all their family.

Another really enjoyable virtual social gathering with some very tasty selections to nibble and sip. And we now know how to eat cheese properly!

Why should this unexceptional London street be of interest to the Plumbers’ Company? The answer is both straightforward and curious: over a period of some hundred and thirty years no fewer than nine Masters of the Company and three Company Beadles lived and worked there or else had links to it.

The Plumbers have held their first virtual lecture. A portent of things to come?

Liveryman Dr Susanne Lee, Chair of the Royal Society of Public Health Water Special Interest group, will be chairing a session at the Federation Infection Society and Healthcare Infection Society International 2020, which will take place online between Monday 9 – Wednesday 11 November 2020.

We welcome Overbury plc, the UK’s leading office fit out and refurbishment specialist and Catchpole & Rye, the luxury bathroom ware manufacturer, to our exclusive corporate membership group.

The Court met virtually on 22 October 2020 to re-instal the Master and Wardens virtually; a first in our history.

The Master has sent us his latest missive as he prepares to enter his second year. A hard copy has also gone out in the post, with the calendar of events brochure for next year.

After much delay, because of the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions, we have now been able to present our latest decorative lead planter….to RHS Wisley. Where will our next planter go?

Many congratulations to St Magnus the Martyr, our company church, for earning a Heritage Fund UK grant to stream its Mass to a worldwide audience.

It is with much sadness we have to announce the death of Liveryman Charles King RP. He died peacefully at the age of 84 years after a long illness and had been a member for 39 years. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

The Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman William Russell, has been re-elected to serve a second year in office.

Fourteen members and their partners enjoyed a relaxing evening at home sharing a bottle or two hosted by Master of Wine, Victoria Stephens-Clarkson.

The All Party Parliamentary Water Group is holding a virtual meeting on “Devolution in the Water Industry – What can the regions learn from one another?”  from 4pm to 5pm on Tuesday 6 October 2020.
