Horners’ Inter-Livery Golf Competition – 14 June 2023

Golf Society News

On a beautiful sunny day, we arrived at the delightful, but challenging Ashridge Golf Course in Buckinghamshire to defend the Horners’ Inter-Livery Golf Trophy, which we won last year.

This excellent course was in a beautiful condition, and we entered two teams:

Team A: Paul Nash, Mike Samuel, Jane Palmer and Tony Goodhead.

Team B: Richard Harvey, Tony Peters, Luke Peters and Ian Palmer.

Eleven companies and seventeen teams competed. Nourished by bacon butties and coffee, we got off to a shotgun start at 09:00. With the best two stableford scores from each team member counting on each hole, the course was dry and fast, especially the greens.

It was a close fought competition, with only two points separating the top six teams. The Accountants 2 team eventually won with 95 points. Five teams followed on 93 points, including Plumbers Team A, who finished third on count back. Plumbers Team B finished with a very creditable 88 points.

We were then treated to an excellent 3-course lunch in the stunning clubhouse, with excellent views over the course.

Many thanks to the Horners’ Company for organizing such a great day’s golf, and to Ashridge Golf Club and staff for hosting us so well.

We’re off to Verulam Golf Club next to defend the Inter-Livery Ryder Cup, which we also won last year.

If you would like to know more about the Plumbers’ Golf Society (PGS) contact our secretary, David Hannam at plumbersgolfcompany@gmail.com.

We play some excellent courses and have a lot of fun on and off the course!
