Visit to the Gunmakers’ Proof House
On Wednesday, 15th January, you are invited to join the Master for a visit to the Proof House, home of the Gunmakers’ Livery, followed by lunch at the House.
Due to limited space this event is only open to Liverymen and you are recommended to book early.

Since 1675, the Worshipful Company of Gunmakers has been located at its present location, just outside Aldgate and the old walls of the City of London.
The Gunmakers’ Company operates the Proof House, which has statutory powers to test and regulate the safety of firearms in the UK. The Proof House undertakes three major activities: gun proof, safety and de-activation. No gun can be legally sold in the United Kingdom without having undergone proof, which is the process of testing the safety of a gun barrel. It is still done as it has been since the Gunmakers’ Company was established in 1637.

The visit will start with an introductory talk on the history and workings of the Gunmakers’ Company and the Proof House, followed by an escorted tour of the workshop led by the Proof Master. You will learn about how proofing is done and the role that the Company plays in firearms safety, including bullets and cartridges.
We will then have lunch in the Proof House.
