Plumbers Saddle Up to Welcome new Liverymen and New Clerk

Company News

Master Charles and Mistress Penny welcomed more than 70 Liverymen and guests to our first Livery event of the calendar year, the Court Lunch, celebrating new Liverymen, a new Clerk, and captivating City tales from guest speaker Murray Craig, took place at Saddlers’ Hall on Wednesday, 22 January 2025.

The Master and Mistress were joined by Immediate Past Master David Adams and his Consort Kathy, Upper Warden Sandra Raine and her Consort Ian, and Janet Rivers and her Consort Tony Goodhead. We were delighted to clothe three new Liverymen: Felix Filson, his sister Olga Filson (our youngest ever Liveryman!), and Russell Penny. Additionally, Debbie Abergil was sworn in as Clerk.

After a delightful lunch, our guest speaker, Murray Craig, entertained us with fascinating “tales of the City.” Murray recently retired as Clerk of the Chamberlain’s Court in the City of London after 25 years, being only the 37th Clerk since 1294. He shared some intriguing anecdotes from his time conducting the Freedom Ceremony.

It was a terrific start to the calendar year and greatly enjoyed by all who attended. Many thanks to everyone who contributed to making the day a success, including all the Stewards who supported the event and Michael Myers who stepped in as Acting Beadle.
