Amberley Museum demonstrators receive more accolades #PMWT
Our Plumbing Museum and Workshop Trust demonstrators were amongst the volunteers at Amberley Museum to be presented with The King’s Award for Voluntary Service on 3rd May 2024.
The King’s Award is the highest award a local voluntary group can receive in the UK and is equivalent to an MBE. It aims to recognise outstanding work by local volunteer groups to benefit their communities.
The work that our team undertook in making the Coronation Planters for Their Majesties The King and The Queen was thought to have contributed significantly to the honour that the museum received.
The Award Ceremony was held at Amberley Museum, and the Award and Certificate was presented by Lady Emma Barnard, Lord-Lieutenant of West Sussex.
Lady Emma Barnard toured Amberley Museum including a stop at our Workshop to meet our volunteers:
Jon Richard was pleased to gift Lady Emma Barnard with Traditional Craft Leadwork made in the Workshop including a Plumbers’ Company shield:
Eddie McCourt and Peter Cheesman are featured on Amberley Museum’s press announcement, and Eddie McCourt proudly wore his badge to the recent Summer Festival:
Said Past Master and PMWT Trustee Steve Hodkinson:
The Plumbing Museum and Workshop Trust at Amberley relies exclusively on the contribution from our volunteers and we’re very proud of this great achievement.
Richard Vernon, Chair of Trustees for Amberley Museum, said:
I am thrilled that the dedication, commitment and contribution of Amberley Museum Volunteers has been recognised through the prestigious King’s Award for Voluntary Service. I am always struck by the variety of skills and knowledge our volunteers bring to the Museum, which are shared with other volunteers and to the wider visiting public.
Members and their guests are warmly encouraged to visit the Gin Building at Amberley Museum to see Peter, Eddie, and the team at work lead casting and preserving our craft.
