    Posted on 13th August 2018 Musical Delights from the City Music Foundation

    On Friday 16th November we're holding a fundraising event at Guildhall Art Gallery and the Roman Amphitheatre.  Actor Simon Callow, soprano Joan Rodgers and pianist Roger Vignoles, three of our celebrated and generous patrons, join to bring you an evening of entertainment through the letters and music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. His correspondences, in particular those with his family and his patron (Nadezdha von Meck, whom he never met!), tell us so much about this troubled man and his searing music.  As well as letters and songs, the evening will include Tchaikovsky’s string sextet Souvenir de Florence performed by an ensemble of City Music Foundation Artists.  Tickets will include drinks and canapés.

    In the latest edition on page 40 of the HVP magazine,  http://ebooks.hvpmag.co.uk/hvp0718_ebook/, Tim Sainty, CIPHE Membership Director, explores whether the UK should introduce a licensing system for plumbers.  This has been the aim of the Worshipful Company of Plumber since the 1800s. In countries such as the United Staes, Hong Kong, Germany and Australia, it is a legal requirement for plumbers to be licensed. In order to become licensed in these countries an individual must undergo extensive formal training.

  • Death Of Past Master John Lawrence-Mills

    It is with much sadness we have to announce the death of Past Master John Lawrence-Mills who passed away on 30th July just before his 90th birthday, which would have been on 19th August. John had been a Liveryman since 1978 and served as Master from 1992 to 1993.  The funeral will be on the 15th August at Stogumber Church, near Taunton, Somerset at 11.30am. Family flowers only please. Donations to the Churches Conservation Trust or Hope for Kids International, c/o Grandfield & Son, Nether Stowey, Bridgwater, TA5 1HZ.

    A full eulogy and memorial information will be announced in due course.

  • Death of ex-Liveryman Peter Haddon

    The office has just been informed by his daughter Fiona that ex-Liveryman Peter Haddon passed away on 2nd July 2018. He retired due to poor health in 2013, but had been a Liveryman for 27 years from 1987.  The clerk has sent the Company’s condolences to the family.
